There are momentous events that occur during our lives that later on, we will end up wishing we had on tape. Photographs are no longer the preferred method of storing memories, giving way to video cameras instead. As more technological advances are made, there are bigger and better video cameras on the market available for purchase. It is ultimately up to you to decide which video camera will best suit your needs.

A video camera can be a major purchase, and should be a well-informed and researched decision. There are a lot of resources available online or at your local bookstore that would be very helpful in your knowledge quest.

If you plan on recording for long periods of time, more than a couple of hours, you should try to opt for a video power that is an energy saver, or else you will spend your recording time changing out and recharging batteries. It is a good idea to have a couple of spare batteries anyway, just in case.

Most video cameras now come equipped with a viewfinder, which is much handier for the user than looking thru a little round hole, or eyepiece, to see what they are recording. The downside to recording and using the viewfinder, however, is that it sometimes can be a bigger drain on your battery time than just using the eyepiece. Using a viewfinder makes it much easier to film hard to reach shots, while allowing you better control over what you are filming.

Before making a purchase, you should familiarize yourself with digital and optical zoom. With optical zoom, you tend to get a nice sharp, well focused image. Digital zoom doesnt offer a sharp picture; its basically a magnifying effect. You will probably be much better satisfied with a video camera that has both digital and optical zoom. Focus more on the optical zoom if you want high quality videos.

Many of todays video cameras offer a feature called image stabilization. This feature helps prevent the video from being shaky and jumping all over the screen when you watch it, therefore producing a higher quality video. Image stabilization helps to filter out the normal shaking of the camera.

Some video cameras can now pose as still picture cameras as well, thus eliminating the need to take two cameras to events. You can get live and still shots in one piece of equipment.

One neat feature of some video cameras is the ability to record to DVD, which recently, seems to be the most preferred type of media.

If you are a newbie when it comes to shooting film, you can also opt for a video camera that will basically do everything for you but hold the camera. They come now equipped with auto focus and light adjustments, so all you have to do is press a button and shoot.

There is such a wide range of video cameras on the market today; it can become confusing when trying to decide which one will best suit your needs. Doing your homework beforehand, can help save you a lot of time, and possibly help ensure you truly do make a wise investment.

Finding the right video camera requires a few simple steps. Start by researching the various products available in the marketplace.

If you’re unfamiliar with video cameras, doing your homework now can better ensure you’ll be satisfied with your final purchase. Many consumers are use to particular brand names, and the quality and features associated with each. If this is your first video camera, you may want to take the plunge and purchase a truly top-of-the-line model, or just get your big toe wet with a less expensive unit. The challenge is in selling yourself that the extra cost, whatever it may be, will be able to generate the results you need to make it all worthwhile.

This research process can be used when making any type of photo purchase. First set the price range. How much are you willing to spend? Determine if you’re looking for an amateur or a professional grade camera. Even if you’re an amateur, sometimes the pro shops can offer some surprisingly accessible products. Regardless, it’s helpful to go to a major photo and video supplier’s Web site to check out what’s available.

There’s one more step to be taken. Locate other folks who had already made purchases and shared their thoughts. User expectation is a big factor in a consumer’s experience. For instance, one person may make a negative comment about a feature. However, that feature is irrelevant to your need for that product. Read the good comments and the bad. Then shift through the details for what really matters to you.

Before, after or as you read consumer reviews, make a list of all the realistic scenarios as to how you plan to use the video camera. Will you use it in low light conditions? Do you care about audio? Does it need to be compact and portable? Will you need to carry it a distance? Will you be able to react to impromptu situations? Does it have a million accessories and how much do they cost? How long does the battery last? Is it complicated to download the contents? How much data can be held on the storage device? Will you need a tripod?

The next thing, to ask yourself is “What are you willing to sacrifice to get the majority of what you want in the price range you desire?” There is no single perfect camera (in an affordable price range of most consumers). Remember that old expression, “you can’t be all things to all people.” It’s called an average camera.

There’s a professional photographer who wanted to move into video. His choice for this first-time buy was a JVC video camera. It’s a lower end price range professional video camera ($2,000-ish). JVC has a reputation for making some great DVD/CD and stereo equipment leading one to believe that all their products should offer similar performance. The runner up was a highly rated, semi-amateur/professional Sony camera in a mid-range price ($1,200-$1,300). Then there was the highly-rated Panasonic for $900. It was reported that the results for this camera in low light conditions were poor and grainy. All things considered it was still a good camera. Like all video cameras, the built-in audio is considered sub-par. If you plan to digitally add sound that should not be an issue.

So ultimately what was the professional photographer’s choice? The photographer opted for the Sony.

Buying cheaper is not always the best option. Being happy with the equipment and using it rather than having it sit in the box makes all the difference.

The advent of digital technology has greatly changed the way consumers use products. Digital cameras are one product that has shifted behavior and production. Digital camera batteries vary by brand and model, and also by the type of battery.

There are literally dozens of digital camera brands. Before finding the right digital camera battery and adapter for your camera, you need to be sure of the brand and model digital camera you are using. Once you select the brand, there are numerous model numbers to choose from and these batteries are typically not compatible across model numbers. Manufacturers design a specific battery technology for each model that provides optimum functionality for that specific digital camera.

Digital camera batteries can vary greatly by price depending on the type of battery you purchase. Traditional alkaline batteries are far less expensive than newer technology batteries, but do not last as long and do not have as much power. In order to keep up with the fast pace of digital cameras, manufacturers have created Lithium batteries. Lithium batteries last up to 10 times longer than alkaline batteries, and therefore can take many more pictures. Though lithium batteries last so much longer, they weigh much less than alkaline batteries. For the convenience however, lithium batteries are much more expensive than alkaline batteries. Another inexpensive alternative to lithium batteries is oxy-nickel batteries. There are specifically designed for digital cameras and last up to four times longer than alkaline batteries.

There are lots of things to take into consideration when purchasing a digital camera, but batteries arent usually one of those things, though they should be. Batteries are one of the only supplies for a digital camera that will need to be bought on a regular basis. Unlike conventional cameras, you never need film for a digital camera. But if you want to store these photos without a computer, you will need memory cards that can store large files like the images taken with a digital camera.

Buying the best digital camera battery is the best way to get the most out of a digital camera. By buying quality batteries, you will be able to take more pictures without delays and also save money in the long run.

Coolest, Newest Flashlight.

The NightStar flashlight is a great gadget for anyone to own. The NightStar is the original battery that runs without batteries and uses a trademarked technology. There are many advantages of owning a NightStar flashlight and only needs to be shaken in order to work. For anyone who ever needs a flashlight, the NightStar flashlight is the greatest new invention.

The NightStar Flashlight is just as effective and powerful as battery powered flashlights.
The LED light is very long life, light emitting diode are said to last up to 100,000 or more. LED is much more efficient and use less power than traditional light bulbs. The LED housing is also very durable and virtually unbreakable.

The Flashlight itself is made of a heavy duty plastic housing. The flashlight is also resistant to chemicals such as acids, ammonia, saltwater, and alcohol. It is also resistant to shock, and is fully functional after repeated drops from high levels. It is also fully functional after being run over on a concrete surface by a heavy weight vehicle.

There are now many types of the NightStar flashlight available on the market. They range in price from around $20 to $50. The NightStar CS is a smaller flashlight for more convenience. It needs to be shaken only seconds for 30 minutes of light time. This type is great for fishers and hikers who need light for extended periods of time. A great advantage of the NightStar is that it floats beam up when in water.

The NightStar II is another option that is larger. It comes in a variety of colors and can also be purchased with different color LED lenses. A red lens is important for astronomers or hunters who need nighttime light. There is also a green lens that is useful for seeing outdoors at night. These larger flashlights need to be shaken for 30 seconds to power 20 minutes of light. Both types of batteries have a 5 year warranty.

Now there is a flashlight that runs without batteries, without ever having to replace the batteries or recharge the batteries. It never needs new batteries and is great for outdoor enthusiasts or those who love gadgets. And the NightStar flashlight is the only gadget with its patented technology.

Quality digital cameras are becoming affordable for just about everyone these days. Kodak’s entry into the low cost end of the market is their CX7300 3.2 mega pixel model. You just may be surprised at what a terrific value it is. Please read on.

As recently as two years ago, if you were shopping for a 3.0 mega pixel or greater camera, you would have paid approximately $249. for one. Today, prices have tumbled and it isn’t uncommon to find cameras in this category going for $150 or less. Recents sale prices I have observed have brought this price down further with one retailer selling the Kodak CX7300 for just under $100.

As you may know a 3.0 meg camera is ideal if you are taking pictures to post online. Anything greater isn’t necessary, so there is no need to expend the extra bucks for a 5.0, 6.0, or even 7.0 meg camera.

This particular Kodak model is no bare bones model either. Top features include:

3.2 million pixels

3x digital zoom

1.6″ color display

Red eye reduction

Self timer

Color modes

Multiple scene modes

Movie mode

16 MB internal memory

Easy Share software

The CX7300 is easy to use and picture quality is very good. Kodak also markets this model camera as a C300, so shop around and see what your retailer is offering.

There seems to be a relatively large population of Canon owners who are affected by the E18 error. In this article I will teach you a few simple methods you can try to repair the error yourself.

This article is intended for people whose cameras are out of warranty. If your camera is still under warranty, go to your nearest Canon repair shop and let them fix it. If its not, you can either choose to pay around 150$ for the repair or try one of these simple techniques.

First I should explain what exactly an E18 is. According to Canons web site, it is an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off. It can happen if you apply pressure to the area surrounding the lens while it is in the recording mode (this includes dropping the camera), or if sand or dirt get into the lens area. The lens gets stuck, you get a black screen with a small “E18″ sign in the lower-left corner, the camera beeps a few times and turns off.

Lately, I noticed a number of people online who are having troubles with this error. It happened to my Power Shot A520 as well a couple of weeks ago, but fortunately, the camera was still under warranty so Canon fixed it free of charge. In order to help the unlucky ones whose cameras are out of warranty, I decided to write this article.

Basically, there are a couple of simple things you can try. I cant guarantee they will work for you, but I know these methods have helped some people get rid of their E18 problems:

1) One method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. I know it sounds to simple to work, but this can get some of the dirt out of the lens.

2) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed air set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should remove all of the dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function fine.

3) Another solution is to try and push the lens back into place. This is the least preferable method. Try it only if the camera is out of warranty and DONT apply too much pressure! If the lens can be set back into place with a light push, great! If not, dont force it!

4) If nothing else works, there are a couple of online guides in different languages for dismantling the camera and cleaning the lens thoroughly. Try this only if your camera is out of warranty! Some of them are:

- http://www.ixus-world.de/tips/repair_guide/e18_01en.htm – a guide in English
- http://menthol.hit.bg/E18.html – a guide in Bulgarian
- http://www.artecdesign.ee/~jan/Kaamerad/PowerShotA70/index.html – Estonian guide

The last two are not in English, but they have a lot of pictures which should help with the whole process.

So youve learned how you can try and rescue your camera. Try out the methods for yourself, and contact me with good news.

Shopping online for a camera is the best way to locate detailed descriptions of all the camera and lens options available. Then you will be able to make your choices based on these descriptions. Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer, there are many places on the Web to look for the camera you want.

What Camera Do You Need?

First of all, you must decide what type of camera will meet your needs. You may only need a simple point and shoot for family photos. These cameras will be less expensive and uncomplicated to operate. You can get automatic actions such as zoom and flash or automatic advancement in 35mm cameras. They are usually compact and simple to use, which makes it easy for anyone to take pictures.

However, there are limitations with those cameras in the control of exposure and focusing. For someone who is more involved in amateur photography, added manual control may be beneficial. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to change lenses to get a better zoom picture. Sporting events and vacation photos will be more pleasing to look at when taken with the right types of lenses.

The serious and professional photographers will want the best cameras with the features that suit their needs. This would include manual focus to give the clearest and sharpest pictures. Also, there are several different size lenses to get a good picture from a greater distance.

Different Camera Styles

There are basically four different kinds of cameras to choose from. The first, usually cheapest and easiest to handle, is the point and shoot. The second is the 35mm SLR that allows more variety in lenses and focus. The third is the Medium Format, which is larger and gives a larger negative to work with. It is completely manual but supplies a high-quality photograph. The fourth is the Large Format camera used by the professionals. It is larger and harder to use but provides stunning photographs from the larger size prints.

Shop Online for Cameras and Lenses

When you have decided the type of camera you need, you are ready to shop online. To get started, you simply type in your key words on a search engine. Once you know what you are looking for the task will be much simpler. There are many sites that offer cameras at wholesale or discount prices. They usually offer all the well-known brands such as Leica, Minolta, Canon, Horizon, Contax, Olympus, Mamiya, Nikon, Hasselblad, Pentax, and Noblex.

Some sites sell used products that have been gently used or refurbished. Purchasing these cameras would save you some money and will usually still come with a warranty. There are sites with online catalogs where you can look for the brand or style you want. They also provide search features so you can shop by key word or brand name.

Compare Before Buying

It is a good idea to shop around and compare prices and shipping costs before buying a camera. Remember to include the shipping costs when calculating the total price of a camera or lenses. Don’t buy a camera at a discount price just because it is a good deal. To be sure you are satisfied with your purchase, look for the key features and quality you want. Buy a camera based on your needs and you’ll enjoy taking fabulous photographs with it for years to come!

Digital camera prices have been constantly dropping whilst the quality and complexity of the digital cameras has been rising rapidly. People who used to only dream of owning a digital camera because of the excessive digital camera prices may now be able to afford much better cameras than they realize. In fact, digital camera prices have changed so dramatically that a 5- or 6-megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera has dropped below what a 4-megapixel camera was selling for less than a year ago.

Digital camera prices of $200-$300 are now common for good point-and-shoot digital cameras that come with an image resolution of up to 5 mega pixels and a 3X optical zoom lens. It is important to recognize what the minimum features are to expect for this range of digital camera prices. Digital camera prices between $200 and $300 should include:

* 1.3 frames per second shooting capability
* 10 to 20 scene modes
* built-in flash
* lens openings from f2.8 to f4.8
* optical viewfinder and an LCD of 1.5 to 2 inches
* optical zoom lens with a range equivalent to that of a 35-115mm lens
* rechargeable batteries
* shutter speeds of 4 seconds to 1/2000 second
* solid plastic or metal housing
* video clip capture at 320 by 240 resolution with audio

Digital camera prices can vary and it is essential to know what the most useful features are. Obviously you want to take good pictures but dont want to pay the inflated digital camera prices that the high-end cameras have. However, your priority should be to assess which features are the most important to enable you to take the best pictures. The higher the numbers of megapixels that the cameras have, the higher the digital camera prices are but this does not necessarily guarantee better pictures.

One of the most useful features to look for in the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices for point-and-shoot picture taking is scene modes. Digital camera prices are not affected very much by having scene modes but these allow an amateur photographer to take shots such as a fireworks display and sunsets without knowing how to adjust the camera settings manually. The majority of the better digital cameras within the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices have scene mode selections available. Another feature of cameras within the $200-$300 range of digital camera prices is that they are compact and will fit in a jacket pocket.

Digital cameras have exploded in popularity in recent years. The convenience that they have brought to the market with the ability to review your pictures instantly and correct any imperfections by retaking the picture and the ability to store, edit, and email them from your own personal computer has fueled this growth.

It is now no longer a matter of if you need a digital camera, but rather which one do I choose?

First decide how you are going to use the camera. If simplicity is your goal, a simple point and shoot digital camera will do. If you wan the flexibility to be able to grow with the camera as you gain experience get a point and shoot that offers manual controls, this way you will have the best of both worlds infinite options for creativity and the ease of an automatic mode.

The next item on your agenda should be megapixels. To keep it simple, the more megapixels the better the picture will be. So, how many megapixels do you need?
If all you are doing is printing or emailing photos, a 3 or 4 megapixel digital camera will work. If you are going to use it for more professional work and enlarging photos, go with one with 5 or 6 megapixels.

If you want uncompromising clarity go with a 7 megapixel or above. Just remember the higher the megapixels the higher the price!

How much zoom do you need? You have two types of zoom with digital cameras, digital and optical. Optical is the more important because it brings your object closer without losing quality. The digital zoom will bring the object in closer, but you sacrifice the quality of the picture. If all you do is take everyday pics a 1x to 4x optical zoom will do. If you take pics like sporting events, get one with a 5x optical zoom or higher. For really intense professional work choose a 10x or better optical zoom.

Digital cameras have evolved now to the point where you can get a great fully featured camera that will fit comfortably in your shirt pocket so dont think you have to get a large one to get good quality. If you are using it for more professional use with large optical zoom and such expect to have to buy a larger one however.

If it is your first time to buy a digital camera and you are as yet just starting out your foray into digital photography, it is understandable for you to be a little baffled when choosing what to buy for your first digital camera. After all, if you are not so confused and if you already know what digital camera you should buy, then you would not be looking at an article such as this one.

When starting out with digital photography, you need the best digital camera that is most suited to your level of expertise. Using a digital camera that is just right for you will guide you as you learn your way through the field of photography, as well as help you develop an appreciation for the art. The digital camera that you should use should be just right for you. Use a camera that is too advanced for you and you will only end up being frustrated, with the possibility of leading you to give up on photography. It is important that the camera you choose should just be right for you.

How do you get to choose your first digital camera, the camera that is just right for you? It all depends on your reasons for wanting to learn photography and the amount of time and money you are willing to invest on such a tool. Below is a short guide on how you should pick your first digital camera.

1. Go for SLR digital cameras. When given the choice of whether to go for a point-and-shoot camera or an SLR digital camera, go for the SLR camera. An SLR camera is actually easier to manipulate than a point-and-shoot camera. It is also the better decision to make in case you are thinking of getting a point-and-shoot camera and then upgrade to SLR later on, simply because it is more cost effective.

2. Get a camera that you love. Beautiful pictures are created if there is a good relationship between the photographer and his digital camera. So, when you go out to buy a digital camera, buy something that you know you will love using, no matter how many years pass by. It is like a marriage you would want your camera to be something that will grow old with you.

3. Go for the latest model. If you can afford it, buy the latest digital camera available. Buying the latest model is a better investment than buying an outmoded, secondhand camera. You are not sure if there are broken parts inside the secondhand camera, and if there are broken parts, it would actually cost more to have it repaired because old parts are harder to find than new ones.

4. Buy a spare memory card to go with your digital camera. You will never know when you need extra memory for your digital camera and it is impossible for you to transfer all the pictures in your camera to your computer. Compact flash cards are the best and the safest memory cards around that are suitable for your digital camera. You can also use SD cards, MMC cards and other types of memory cards as long as they are compatible with your camera.

5. Get batteries with a decent lifespan. Digital cameras are notorious for sucking battery juice very quickly. So you would not find yourself in the middle of a shoot with a dead camera, which can be very frustrating, get batteries that have a decent lifespan. Also, remember to recharge your batteries after using them and keep a few batteries to spare just in case you forget.

6. Your lenses and your shooting style. There are many different lenses designed for different shooting conditions. There are lenses for poor lighting and for shooting at night. There are lenses for capturing pictures on fast speeds. Get a set of lenses that will suit the kind of photography that you wish to develop and will be focusing on.

7. Megapixels count. Cameras with higher megapixels shoot pictures with higher resolutions, therefore of better quality. Pictures with higher resolutions are easy to play with, and you can reduce the size of these pictures without worrying about them being blurry. Go for a digital camera that has the highest megapixel rating that you can afford to buy.

8. The design and the feel. Never buy a digital camera online unless you are sure that the camera has the features that you want and you will be using, and unless you are sure of how the camera would fit in your hands. Always go for a camera that does not feel too heavy when you lift it and has features that you would not get losing using.

Your first digital camera should be a camera that you would always love using, no matter how advanced you get with photography.
